Arsenal and Queens Park Rangers will go head-to-head for the signing of West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker.

The 30-year-old has been linked all summer with a move back to the Premier League following the Hammer’s relegation to the Championship.

The England international wants to return to the top flight to help keep his place in the national side, with manager Fabio Capello stressing the point he wants to see him play against the best.

QPR have already had a £4million offer rejected for Parker with West Ham owner David Sullivan labelling the bid as “ridiculous”.

The Hoops, now backed by new owner Tony Fernandes are in the market for more Premier League experience and want Parker to spearhead their push for survival.

Arsenal, who are suffering from a depletion in midfield numbers, want Parker to add more strength in depth.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger would like to take the Footballer of the Year on-loan for the season with an option to buy him next summer.

It is understood the Frenchman is willing to pay £2million to secure the temporary deal.

A move to north London appeals more to Parker, who does not want another relegation struggle and would jump at a chance to play in the Champions League.
