Arsenal January Transfer 2012 – Ex Arsenal player Ray Parlour has called for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to sign Man City’s Wayne Bridge, Arsene is currently looking at the transfer options he has in the January transfer window after Kieran Gibbs suffered a setback in his recovery.
The former midfielder, who made over 300 apperaernces for the club and won the Premier League with Arsenal three times, insists they should bring in Wayne Bridge so they will have a full and ready squad to call on when needed.
Ray Parlour told Talksport – “I think the only position that he (Arsene Wenger) will strengthen in is full-backs.
“Andre Santos, Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna and Carl Jenkinson are all out with injuries. Full-back is a position where they are very light and are getting away with it a bit. Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou have been playing there of late.
“Wayne Bridge would do alright, he’d be a good signing. He’s hasn’t played for quite a while but he’s still a quality player.
“Someone like that on loan might be a good signing but would Man City let you have him though? Why would they want to help the teams around them?”
Arsene Wenger has admitted that he will be doing some business in the up and coming January transfer market, Arsene revealed the club will be looking at loan deals and outright buys aswell.
Manchester City have had no problems in loaning their players out in recent seasons to cut down their massive wage bill, with the likes of Emanuel Adebayor being loaned to Tottenham, but Mancini has insisted that Wayne Bridge will not be loaned out as they want to sell the player instead.
Man City manager Roberto Mancini said – “For a player, it should be important to play football. I don’t know why someone would want to stay at one club when they know they cannot play.
“I don’t understand why there are some players who have a good chance to play football, maybe not in the Premier League, but in the Championship, and don’t take it.
“When we are young and start to play football, we don’t play for money. We play because we like football and every player should have this target in mind – to play football.
“Wayne is a good guy, but for every player it should be important to play. Wayne has had two or three chances (to leave) and in the summer, he had the chance to play for Celtic and this is an important team.”
It looks more than likely that City will try and offload Bridge in January again if any willing takers show themselves. Arsenal could well land the former England international for around the £10 million mark and he could well turn out to be a very good signing for Arsenal.
