Manchester City main summer transfer target is Real Madrid Argentinian winger Angel di Maria according to the Daily Star.
City have been alerted to the Di Maria as the winger is having problems over a new contract at Real Madrid.
Di Maria, 24 on Tuesday, is unhappy with his £80,000-a-week deal and thinks he should be alot more at the Bernabeu – but Madrid, who are currently seven points ahead of rivals Barcelona at the top of La Liga, are reluctant to increase his pay.
If Di Maria stays at Real Madrid then the club will have to pay his former club Benfica an extra £10million next season, based on appearances.
That’s on top of the fee that Madrid paid for him which was £25m and because of that they are said to be considering selling him.
Jose Mourinho’s club have claimed that they already rejected a big offer from Chelsea rumoured to be around the £38 million pound mark.
The Di Maria situation has developed at a time when City manager Roberto Mancini has his scouts looking at wingers with pace.
But even mega-rich City may look at the overall package as too expensive.
