Arsene Wenger ready to wield the axe this summer, first up Per Mertesacker ?

Per-Mertesacker-arsenal-sold

Arsene Wenger is ready to get rid of the first player in defender Per Mertesacker this summer despite only signing for Arsenal at the start of the season, the daily Mirror have reported.

Mertesacker signed for £10 million form German outfit Werder Bremen at the start of the season, he is currently injured with an ankle problem. The big German has found it very hard in the Premier League, but to be fair if you ever watched Werder Bremen play over the last couple of season the last player you would have signed would have been him so Wenger has to look at himself aswell.

Arsenal now look alot more solid with the partnership of Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen and coach Arsene Wenger could be ready to get what he can for the German international to help fund other targets in the summer.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Ajax centre back Jan Vertonghen, so selling Mertesacker would very much make sense. The big German has a contract at Arsenal until 2015, he has played 31 times this season for Arsenal.

Ain’t going to happen. This German international with nearly 80 caps has only had 6 months in a new league and no time to adjust. He’s made a couple of mistakes but that can be expected. He’s perfect back up for Kozzer and TV5. Most likely to be pushed out is Squllaci and then Djourou.

leave mertasacker.he has a great future in arsenal

What a load of rubbish! Where do you get this fact from? The first and only defender Arsene will allow to leave is Squillaci. For his first season in England Per has played well. He reads the game superbly, is very calm on the ball and Wenger himself has praised the way he can play out from the back. You need to take a look at yourself to contemplate if you should continue writing if this is the best you can do!

this never be true wenger should rather sell djoru out of the team

I agree with Nii, he is a lot better than Djourou and in a different class to the hapless Squillaci. I don’t think Mertesacker has had a bad first season and considering that Chamakh wasn’t sold after his dismal first season i’d be shocked if Mertesacker was sold. I think this is typical trash talk from the Mirror with absolutely no basis on facts. I for one would be delighted if Arsenal have Vermaelen, Koscielny, Verthongen and Mertesacker to choose from next season, that’s an excellent choice to have.

sensless article! we all love to see good players coming to arsenal and the deadwood out, but the big german isn't that bad in comparison to other arsenal players (sorry I never like comparing players coz each one has their own skills and abilities) we shouldn't 4get that hes only out because of injury otherwise I would be in contention for arsenal's backline.

  7. ondgooner

I love Per M! Wenger should be looking at people like the Squilla and his likes not a proven international like Per! Please leave Per alone Mr Wenger! Wield the axe on the other 10 or so useless dead wood in the team!!!!!

  8. I love my club {ARSENAL}.
