Athletic Bilbao star Javi Martinez has stated that he isn’t worth the £38 million pound transfer fee that is being reported in Spain.
Martinez, 23, is viewed as one of the brightest young prospects in La Liga and has been tipped to make an impact on the international stage as well. Barcelona are reportebly chasing him as they are keen to ship out Seydou Keita in the summer.
Javi Martinez told Mundo Deportivo – “I do not think there’s anyone who wants to pay so much for me, i see it as too much money for me. I do not think I’m worth so much; I do not think that I’m worth £38 million.”
Questioned on whether he would be interested in a move to Barcelona, the played his cards tight to his chest. He said - “I’m not saying anything now, these things (rumours) are always going on in the world of football. Although it is very nice to be talked about in the newspapers – it is a product of what you are doing and says you’re doing things right.
“I am very happy to talk about myself but now I’m very focused on what I have at the moment. That is enough, so I will try not to give much attention to that (rumours)”.
Javi Martinez’s contract with Athletic Bilbao runs until 2016, he has also been linked with moves to Premier league clubs Arsenal and Manchester United in the past.
